ABOUT
“MOMENTUM” is a youth-based magazine that aims to explore the multi-faceted world of science and technology. The focus of “Momentum” is to highlight STEM concepts and its ever-growing prominence in today’s world, from a youthful and creative angle. This creative endeavour is run by a group of high school students from Jakarta, Indonesia, who aspire to share, learn and indulge in the wonders of today’s scientific minds & dreamers.
Why Momentum?
As we move into 2020, it is worth recognising that the past 2 decades have been marked with a variety of inventions and innovations, ranging from the infant self-driving car, to the gene-editing system, CRISPR. As yet another decade ushers in, we are absolutely certain of the place science will have in defining the upcoming 10 years. Science gives momentum to the future – it is that force that pushes societies to evolve beyond the present.

Hi everyone! I’m Jasmine, and I’m from Jakarta, Indonesia. I’ve always been interested in writing and STEM (especially biology and medicine), and being one of Momentum’s Executive Leads will allow me to explore these passions and meet other like minded people. STEM aside, you can find me reading or researching on global affairs for debates and Model UN conferences. Kanaya Ozora

Hi! I’m Kanaya, an 11th grade student with an aspiration to be an engineer. I’ve always been looking for ways to immerse myself in STEM, and working as one of Momentum’s Executive Leads allows me to explore a bigger part of my interest in STEM. I also host a small podcast called 'Be the Representation' highlighting the achievements of women in the STEM field, which you can find linked in my IG bio (@kanayanozora)! Aside from STEM, I enjoy playing the piano and guitar as well as casual writing. I'm looking forward to exploring greater parts of STEM with the rest of the team!
Hi! My name is Nadine and I’m a recent IB graduate from MISJ :). I co-founded Momentum in 2020 after noticing a lack of STEM extracurriculars available within my community and I’m so glad to have watched it grow. My interests include biochemistry, biomedicine and biotech and I hope to continue exploring them through Momentum. Hi! I’m Carolene and I am a senior at JIS. Growing up I have always been interested in Medicine, Science, Math and giving back to the community. As a child, whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my response would be a creator of something or someone who can make a difference with the advancements in technology. I soon learned that what I wanted to be was called an “engineer". Combining my love of STEM, Medicine and giving back to the community, I am interested in pursuing a career in Biomedical Engineering, a major that is still relatively new in Indonesia. As the Head of Content, I will be sure to explore topics that are new and that all of you are curious about. I am also President of @swenextjakarta, an organization that empowers young girls to pursue a career in STEM. Hi! I'm Freya, a fifteen-year-old IB student with a strong passion for maths, physics, and programming. Oddly enough, I like to spend my time studying and flipping through my mathematics textbooks. I am interested in the wonders of theoretical physics and cosmology, and I aspire to explore and study our universe. During my rest days, I often find myself watching Netflix or cooking. I've had a deep interest in STEM for as long as I can remember, but I've always been most fascinated learning how autonomous machines like robots function and how they learn from and interact with their surroundings. Hello! I’m Karina, a 17 year old student with a big interest in zoology and marine biology. I love learning about the animals that inhabit this planet, especially those who are found in marine environments. Being a diver myself, I get to see a plethora of sea creatures not many people would normally see in aquariums. Because of this, I am interested to learn more about what lies in the world of STEM that not many would know, which is why I joined Momentum as a website contributor.
